Q. The mass of a lift is $2000\, kg.$ When the tension in the supporting cable is $28000\, N,$ then its acceleration is

AIPMTAIPMT 2009Laws of Motion

Solution:

The gravitational force in downward direction is $20000 \,N$ and the tension force in upward direction is $28000\, N$.
By newton's second law of motion
$\Sigma F = ma$
$\Rightarrow T - mg = ma$
$a =\frac{ T - mg }{ m }=4 \,m / s ^{2}$
