: The cell wall comprises four layers, the middle lamella, the primary wall, the secondary wall and tertiary wall. Middle lamella is the cementing layer between the cells, made up of Ca and Mg pectates. Primary wall is laid down on both sides of middia lamella. The ripened fruits become softened due to dissolution of middle lamella.
