Q. The largest subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes is

J & K CETJ & K CET 2008

Solution:

Each ribosome is formed of two unequal sub-units, which join only at the time of protein synthesis. In $70S$ type of ribosome, $50S$ and $30S$ are larger and smaller subunits respectively. Larger subunit is dome shaped and attached to ER by glycoprotein called ribophorins. Smaller subunit is oval-shaped and fits as a cap on flat side of larger sub-unit.
