Q. The increasing order of volatility of hydrides of group 16 elements is

The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

The trend of volatility is $H_2O < H_2Te < H_2Se < H_2S.$
The high boiling point and therefore low volatility of water is due to the association of $H_2O$ molecules through hydrogen bonding. However, hydrogen bonding is not present in other hydrides. The intermolecular forces forces. These forces increase with increase in molecular size and therefore, boiling points increase in moving from $H_2S$ and $H_2Se.$ between the hydrides (except $H_2O$) are van der Waals
