Cytokinins are specific plant chemicals or hormones that play a central key role in the regulation of the plant cell cycle and numerous developmental processes. With regard to physiological functions, it stimulates cell division and prevents the onset of senescence in tissues. Kinetin is a synthetic cytokinin, whereas zeatin is a naturally occurring cytokinin. They stimulate cell division. Cytokinins break dormancy of seeds. Delay senescence of leaves and other organs. Cytokinins promote the growth of lateral buds. Cytokinin synthesised in the root and its transport towards the shoot apex. It is known as acropetal transport. Cytokinin regulate phloem transport.
