Q.
The horizontal and vertical components of earth's magnetic field at a place are $0.3\, G$ and $0.52 \,G$. The earth’s magnetic field and the angle of dip are
Magnetism and Matter
Solution:
Here,
$B_H = 0.3\, G$; $B_v = 0.52\, G$
The earths magnetic field
$B = \sqrt{B^{2}_{H} + B^{2}_{V}}$
$ = \sqrt{\left(0.3\right)^{2} + \left(0.52\right)^{2}} $
$= 0.6\,G$
and angle of dip,
$tan \,\delta = \frac{B_{V}}{B_{H}} = \frac{0.52}{0.3} = 1.734$
$\delta = tan^{-1} \left(1.734\right) = 60^{\circ}$
