Q. The homosporous pteridophytes
NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020
Solution:
Depending on the nature of spores produced from the spore mother cells, Pteridophyta members can be broadly grouped into two categories:
1. Homosporous ferns are those which produce only one type of spores. Some of these are Lycopodium and Dryopteris. These ferns have free-living gametophytes, called prothallus which bears sex organs. The gametophytes are photosynthetic as well.
2. Heterosporous ferns like most water ferns (Selaginella, Azolla, Salvinia, etc.) produce two types of spores, smaller microspores, and larger megaspores.
