Recombinant DNA technology has allowed the production of antigenic polypeptides of pathogens in bacteria or yeast. Vaccines produced using this approach allow large scale production and hence greater availability for immunization, e.g., hepatitis B vaccine (Recombivax HB) produced from yeast.
