Q. The gravitational field in a region is given by equation $E =(5 i +12 j ) N / kg .$ If a particle of mass $2 kg$ is moved from the origin to the point $(12 m , 5 m )$ in this region, the change in gravitational potential energy is

EAMCETEAMCET 2012

Solution:

We have,
$ d V=-E \cdot d r=-(5 i +12 j ) \cdot(12 i +15 j )$
$=(60+60)=-120$
The change in gravitational potential energy
$U=m d V=2 \times(-120)=-240 \,J$
