Solution:

Rice is extremely low in vitamin A content. Two scientists, Potrykus and Beyer developed genetically modified rice (golden rice) which was capable of storing beta- carotene. A japonica variety of rice was engineered with three genes necessary for the rice grain to produce and store beta-carotene. These included two genes from the daffodil plant and a third from a soil bacterium Erwinia uredovora.
Nirenberg and Khorana are the two scientists involved in deciphering genetic code. Andrew Fire and Craig Mello conducted the gene silencing technique through RNAi and Temin and Baltimore explained the concept of reverse transcriptase.
