Benzene is converted to benzaldehyde by passing a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrochloric acid gas in the presence of anhydrous $ AlCl_{3} $ and traces of cuprous chloride. This reaction is known as Gattermann-Koch reaction $ CO + HCl \rightarrow HCOCl $
