In $ {{C}_{4}} $ plants, initial $ C{{O}_{2}} $ Fixation occurs in mesophyll cells. The primary acceptor of $ C{{O}_{2}} $ is phosphoenol pyruvate (PEP). It combines with carbon dioxide in presence of PEP carboxylase to form oxaloacetic acid.
