Q. The extra embryonic membranes of mammalian embryo are derived from

AMUAMU 2002

Solution:

Extra embryonic membranes provide protection and nourishment to foetus. They are of four types-chorion, amnion, allantois and yolk sac. They are derived from trophoblast. Chorion is the outer foetal membrane that takes part in formation of placenta.
Amnion is inner foetal membrane that invests the embryo and forms a space called amniotic cavity.
Allantois is sac like, structure, develops from gut of embryo, supplies blood vessel to placenta. Yolk sac is membraneous sac attached to embryo near allantois, having yolk in egg laying animals and forms corpuscles in mammals till liver takes over.
