KCETKCET 2012Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

Atomic weight of metal = equivalent weight $x$ valency
$=20 \times 2=40$
Molecular formula of metal chloride $= MCl _{2}$
$\therefore $ Molecular mass of
$MCl _{2}=40+2 \times 35.5=111 \,g \,mol ^{-1}$
