Q. The equilibrium concentration of the species in the reaction $A+B \equiv C+D$ are $3,5,10$ and 15 mole $L^{-1}$ respectively at $300\, K$ the $\Delta G$ for the reaction is :

Punjab PMETPunjab PMET 2004Thermodynamics

Solution:

$\Delta G=-2.303\, R T \log K,$
Here $R=2\, cal$,
$T=300$
$K =\frac{10 \times 15}{3 \times 5}=10$
$\therefore \Delta G =-2.303 \times 2 \times 300 \times \log 10$
$=-2.303 \times 2 \times 300 \times 1$
$=-1381.8\, cals$
