The most important tools in advance genetics are enzymes restriction endonucleases. These have the ability to recognize certain nucleotide sequence (ie, restriction sites or restriction enzyme recognition sequence) found on foreign DNA, usually $4$ to $8$ base pair long and then cleave that DNA at or near those sites.
