Crossing over is the mutual exchange of genetic material between non-sister chromatids of two homologous chromosomes. It is an enzyme mediated process. A multienzyme complex called recombinase present in recombination nodules, is involved. It comprises of enzymes endonuclease, exonuclease, unwindase, R-protein, etc., with different functions during crossing over.
