Q. The electrolysis of aqueous solution of $CuBr _{2}$ using platinum electrode would lead to the evolving of
(1) $Br _{2}$ gas at anode
(2) $Br _{2}$ gas at anode and $O _{2}$ gas at cathode
(3) copper(s) at cathode
(4) $H _{2}$ gas at cathode

BHUBHU 2010

Solution:

$C u B r_{2} \rightarrow C u^{2+}+2 B r^{-}$
At cathode $C u^{2+}+2 e^{-} \rightarrow C u(s)$
At anode $2 B r^{-} \rightarrow B r_{2}+2 e^{-}$
