Answer the following question based on given figure.

Motion in a Straight Line

Solution:

Displacement $=\Delta x=x_{2}-x_{1}$
For journey, displacement of car moving from $O$ to $P$
$x _{2}=+360 m $
$x _{1}=0 m $
$\Rightarrow \Delta x = x _{2}- x _{1}=360-0=+360 m$
For journey, displacement in moving from $P$ to $Q$
$x _{2}=+240 m $
$x _{1}=+360 m $
$\Rightarrow \Delta x = x _{2}- x _{1}=240-360=-120 m$
Here, $-$ ve sign implies that the displacement is in -ve direction i.e., towards left.
