Q. The direction of electric field intensity ( E ) at a point on the equatorial line of an electric dipole of dipole moment P is

KEAMKEAM 2008Electric Charges and Fields

Solution:

At equatorial line
$ E_e = \frac{ 1}{ 4 \pi \varepsilon_0 } \frac{ p}{ r^3 } $
and it will be directed from +q charge to -q charge.
Electric field intensity at a point on the equatorial line will be perpendicular to the equatorial line.
