Homo erectus is the immediate ancestor of Homo sapiens. Homo erectus erectus or the Java man and H. erectus pekinensis or the Pecking man fossils are the oldest human fossils having modern human-like body. These features are adaptations towards terrestrial life.
Dryopithecus gave rise to Australopithecus, which evolved into Homo habilis. It then evolved into H. erectus.
