Q. The density of a nucleus of mass number $A$ is proportional to

Delhi UMET/DPMTDelhi UMET/DPMT 2010Atoms

Solution:

Radius of typing nucleus is given by $R=R_{0} A^{1 / 3}$
So, the volume of the nucleus is given by $V=R_{0}^{3} A$
Hence, the density is given by
$\rho=\frac{A}{R_{3}^{0} A}=\frac{1}{R_{0}^{3}}$
$\rho \propto A$
