Thorax of cockroach ( Periplaneta americana) bears three pairs of legs and two pairs of wings. Each thoracic leg segment bears a pair of walking legs. Each leg is composed of five podomeres.
(i) Coxa: It is the largest podomere which articulates with the thoracic segment in between the pleuron and the sternum.
(ii) Trochanter: It liesnext to coxaandarticulatesmovablywith the coxa, but is fused with the next podomere, the femur.
(iii) Femur : Long and the stoutest part of the leg, bearing sensory bristles.
(iv) Tibia: Thin, slender and the longest part of the leg, which also possesses bristles.
(v) Tarsus : It is the terminal part of the leg and composed of five tarsomeres.
