AIPMTAIPMT 2011Morphology of Flowering Plants

Solution:

Chilli belongs to family Asteraceae. Flowers of Asteraceae are actinomorphic i.e. when cut through any vertical plane passing through the axis then two equal halves are formed and its symmetry remains undisturbed. Bisexual i.e. contains both, male and female sexual organs as androecium and gynoecium. Contains 5, united sepals which are then modified to pappus (hairy projections for wind dispersal). It contains 5, fused petals and 5 stamens in epipetalous condition (stamens are fused with petals) contains 2, united carpels (such ovary is said to be syncarpous).
