Q. The confirmatory test used to diagnose AIDS is

Human Health and Disease

Solution:

HIV antibodies can be detected by ELISA test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). A positive ELISA should be confirmed by using another test called western blot test. Western blot test is the culturing of blood and testing plasma for virus. Western blot test will confirm the result of repeated test through the detection of HIV proteins. If all three tests are positive, a diagnosis of HTV infection will be given.
