Solution:
When oxidises with alkaline $\text{KMnO}_{4}$ or acidic $\text{Na}_{\text{2}} \text{Cr}_{\text{2}} \text{O}_{\text{7}} \text{,}$ the entire side chain ( in benzene homologues ) with atleast one $\text{H}$ at $\alpha $ - carbon , regardless of length is oxidised to $- \text{COOH} \text{.}$
