Q. The complexes $\left[ PtCl _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right] Br _{2}$ and $\left[ PtBr _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right] Cl _{2}$ are examples for isomerism

Solution:

Since the complexes $\left[ PtCl _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right] Br _{2}$ and $\left[ PtBr _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right] Cl _{2}$ have the same molecular formula but on ionisation they give different ions, they exhibit ionisation isomerism.
$\left[ PtCl _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right] Br _{2} \rightleftharpoons\left[ PtCl _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right]^{2+}+2 Br ^{-}$
$\left[ PtBr _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right] Cl _{2} \rightleftharpoons\left[ PtBr _{2}\left( NH _{3}\right)_{4}\right]^{2+}+2 Cl ^{-}$
