The shape of chromosome is usually observed at metaphase.
The position of centromere determines the shape of chromosomes.
(i) Telocentric: centromere at terminal end
(ii) Acrocentric: centromere slightly away from the tip.
(iii) Submetacentric: centromere slightly away from midpoint i.e., L-shaped.
(iv) Metacentric: Centromere at mid of chromosome i.e., V-shaped.
