KEAMKEAM 2011Reproduction in Organisms

Solution:

A meiocyte is a cell which is an immediate precursor to a gamete. It is so named because meiosis occurs in the cell. The chromosome number in a meiocyte is same as in somatic cell. In housefly, the number of chromosomes in a somatic cell is 12. Therefore, meiocytes also possess 12 chromosomes.
