Solution:

The cell wall of endodermis is deposited with suberin in the form of strips known as Casparian strips, which makes the layer impermeable. Few cells of endodermis lying opposite to the protoxylem lack suberin on their tangential wall, these are called passage cells which maintains the unidirectional flow of water from outside to inside.
