The cells named podocytes occur in glomerulus of kidney. Podocytes play an important role in glomerular differentiation. The podocyte forms the filtration barrier in the glomerulus. In addition podocytes have a role in the characteristic arrangement of cytoskeletal proteins and intermediate filaments in the formation of foot processes.
