Solution:

$CN ^{-}$ is a 14 electrons system similar to that of nitrogen molecules. As per the MOT concept, Nitrogen molecule is diamagnetic as all the electrons are paired and bond order is 3.
$B.O. =\frac{1}{2}\left[ N _{ b }- N _{ a }\right]=\frac{1}{2}[8-2]=3$
