Q.
The boiling point of $0.001\,M$ aqueous solutions of $NaCl,Na_2SO_4,K_3PPO_4$ and $CH_3COOH$ should follows the order.
KVPYKVPY 2019Solutions
Solution:
Elevation in boiling point,
$\Delta T_{b} = i \times K_{b} \times m.$( $K_{b}$ is constant for a solvent)
If molality $(m)$ is same,$\Delta T_{b}\propto$ van’t Hoff factor
(i)$CH_3 COOH$ only partially dissociates,
$\therefore i < 2$
$NaCl, Na_2SO_4$
and $K_3PO_4$ almost completely dissociate to produce $2, 3$ and $4$ ions per formula respectively,
$\therefore i \approx 2, 3$, and $4$ respectively
$\therefore $ The order of $i =$ the order of boiling points
$= CH_3COOH < NaCl < Na_2SO_4 < K_3PO_4$
