Q.
The absorption of glycerol, fatty acids and monoglycerides takes place in the
NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020
Solution:
Fatty acids, glycerol and monosaccharides are insoluble in nature. Hence, they are not easily absorbed. The bile juice secreted by the liver plays a vital role in their digestion. The bile acids present in bile juice cause the emulsification of fats, causing them to convert into droplets called micelles. These micelles are then transported to the intestinal mucosa, where they convert into protein-coated fat globules known as chylomicrons. The intestinal mucosa has finger-like projections called villi, which have lymph vessels called lacteals. The converted fat globules are transported in these lacteals and are thus, absorbed in the blood and lymph.
