Q. The $A B C$ is a triangular plate of uniform thickness. The sides are in the ratio shown in the figure. $I_{A B}$. $I_{B C}$ and $I_{C A}$ are the moments of inertia of the plate about $A B, B C$ and $C A$ respectively. Which one of the following relations is correct?

Solution:

The intersection of medians is the centre of mass of the triangle. Since the distances of centre of mass from the sides is related as $x_{B C}< x_{A B}< x_{A C}$.
Therefore $I_{B C} >I_{A B} >I_{A C}$
or $I_{B C} >I_{A B}$.
