Thyroxine or $3, 5, 3, 5-$ tetraiodothyronine is a hormone produced by follicular cells of the thyroid gland. It is produced as the precursor thyroglobulin, which is cleaved by enzymes to produce active $T_{4}$ or thyroxine. $T_{4}$ regulates metabolism by controlling the rate of Oxidation in cells.
