Q. Sulphur trioxide can be obtained by which of the following reaction?

AIPMTAIPMT 2012The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

$(a) \, CaSO_4 + C \xrightarrow{\triangle} CaO + SO_2 + CO$
(b) $ Fe_2 \, (SO_4)_3 \xrightarrow{\triangle} Fe_2 O_3 + 3 \, SO_3$
(c) $ S + 2 H_2 SO_4 \xrightarrow{\triangle} 3SO_2 + 2 H_2 o$
(d) $ H_2 SO_4 + PCI_5 \xrightarrow{\triangle} SO_3 HCI $ Chloro sulphonic acid + $ POCI_3$ + HCI
Thus, $ SO_3$ is obtained by heating $ Fe_2 ( SO_4)_3$
