Q.
Suitable conditions for melting of ice
Rajasthan PMTRajasthan PMT 2007Equilibrium
Solution:
ice $\rightleftharpoons$ water
According to Le-Chateliers principle at equilibrium if we change temperature or pressure of a reaction it will shift in such a way so as to undo the change.
$\because $ Melting of ice is endothermic process.
$\therefore $ Supply of heat shifts equilibrium in forward direction
$\because$ Volume of ice is more than volume of water.
$\therefore $ Increase in pressure shifts equilibrium to right.
$\therefore $ High temperature and high pressure are favourable conditions of melting of ice.
