Q. Study the following table
Organism Group Process
I) Rhodospirillum Non-sulphur bacterium Photo heterotroph
II) Bacillus Purple sulphur Bacteria Chemo autotroph
III) Xanthomonas Parasitic bacterium Chemo heterotroph
IV) Rhizobium symbiont bacterium Photo heterotroph
Which two taxa shows the correct combination?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

Rhodospirullum are non sulphur bacteria that are facultative photosynthetic. These bacteria are photosynthetic as well as heterotrophic. Xantomonas are parasitic Bacteria and are chemo heterotrophs. Xanthomonas campestris is parasite on cauliflower causing black rot on leaves. So, 1 and 3 are correct. Bacillus are chemoautotrophic bacteria but are not purple sulphur bacteria. Rhizobium is symbiotic bacterium present on root nodules of legumes. These are autotrophic. Hence, 2 and 4 wrong.
