Solution:

Stem of Opuntia is phylloclade. In phylloclade, the stem having several nodes and internodes is modified into a flat, fleshy and green leaf like structure and carries out photosynthesis like a leaf and also stores food. The leaves are modified either into spines or scales to reduce transpiration.
