Overexploitation is one of the four major causes of biodiversity loss as. Humans depend for their needs on nature and as a result of which they overexploit the natural resources leading to loss of biodiversity. IUCN has recorded in the last 500 years the extinction of 785 species. Some examples of recent extinctions include the Dodo endemic in Mauritius, Quagga endemic in Africa, Dodo endemic in Mauritius, Thylacine endemic in Australia, Steller's Sea Cow endemic in Russia and three subspecies of tiger. Passenger pigeon and Steller's sea cow were hunted by humans leading to their decrease.
