Q. Statement I: Sperm lysins in acrosome dissolve egg envelope facilitating fertilisation
Statement II: Acrosome serves as sensory structure, leading sperm towards ovum

Human Reproduction

Solution:

The contents of the acrosome (sperm lysins and various ions) plays a major role in acrosomal reaction as a result of which the plasma membrane of the sperm fuses with the plasma membrane of the oocyte. This binding leads to depolarisation of plasma membrane of the oocyte, thereby preventing polyspermy.
