Q. Statement I: For a given medium polarizing angle is $60^{\circ}$. The critical angle for this medium is $35^{\circ}$
Statement II: $\mu=\tan i_{p}$.

Wave Optics

Solution:

From the relation,
$\mu=\tan i_{p}=\tan 60^{\circ}=\sqrt{3}$
and also $\mu=\frac{1}{\sin C}$
$\sin C=\frac{1}{\mu}=\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}$
$\therefore C=\sin ^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}\right)=\sin ^{-1}(0.577)$
$\therefore =35.23^{\circ} \cong 35^{\circ}$
