Q. Statement 1: The decreasing order of acidic character of $CO_{2}, N_{2}O_{5}, SiO_{2}$ and $SO_{3}$ is $SO_{3}>\,N_{2}O_{5}>\,CO_{2}>\,SiO_{2}$
Statement 2: Acidic character of oxides increases on moving top to bottom in a group and decreases on moving left to right in a period in Modem periodic table

Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties

Solution:

Statement $1$ : It is correct statement. Across the period the nonmetallic character increases, therefore, the acidic character of oxides increases. On the other hand down, the group the metallic character increases, therefore, the acidic character of oxides decreases. Hence the correct order of acidic character is $SO_{3}>\,N_{2}O_{5}>\,CO_{2}>\,SiO_{2}$
S-$2$ : It is incorrect statement. Acidic character of oxides decreases on moving top to bottom in a group and increases on moving left to right in a period in Modem periodic table
