Q. Statement 1: Esters which contain $\alpha$-hydrogens undergo Claisen condensation.
Statement 2: $LiAlH_4$ reduction of esters gives acids.

Aldehydes Ketones and Carboxylic Acids

Solution:

It is known that esters with a-hydrogens form carbanion when treated with base. It bring about nucleophilic substitution at the carbonyl group of the other molecules of the ester to yield ($\beta$-keto ester. $LiAlH_4$ reduces esters to alcohols.
