Q. Statement 1: Entropy of ice is less than water.
Statement 2: Ice has cage-like structure.

Thermodynamics

Solution:

Entropy of ice is less than water because water molecules in solid state lose kinetic energy and hence their tendency of movement is minimised. Hence entropy decreases in solid state. The statement 2 that ice has cage-like structure is alsocorrect but statement 2 is not the correct explanation for statement 1.
