Q. Spermatids are transformed into spermatozoa by

Human Reproduction

Solution:

The spermatids formed as a result of maturation division are typical undifferentiated animal cells containing mitochondria, Golgi body and centriole but with a haploid set of chromosomes. In this form it is incapable of functioning as a male gamete, which has to reach the ovum. The process by which inactive spermatids are transformed into active spermatozoa is known as spermiogenesis or spermateliosis. Spermatozoon are characterised by formation of flagella and acrosome which are absent in spermatids.
