Q. Speed of decomposition of $ {{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}} $ is reduced by

JamiaJamia 2009

Solution:

Pure hydrogen peroxide is unstable and decomposes on heating $ {{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}+{{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}2{{H}_{2}}O+{{O}_{2}} $ $ \Delta H=-196kJ $ The decomposition of $ {{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}} $ is retarded (ie, stability is increased) by adding a small amount of acid, glycerol, alcohol or acetanilide (-ve catalyst).
