Q. Some common commercial fibres, like jute and flax, are obtained from

: Jute and flax are obtained from phloem fibres which are sclerenchymatous fibres (pointed and needle like occur in groups, sheets or as cyclinders). They have thick wall with simple pits. Jute fibre strands 1.5 to 3 meter in length and contain on an average of 63% cellulose, 22-26% hemicellulose, 10-12% lignin and small quantities of fats, waxes, gums and minerals.
