Q. Solubility of iodine in water may be increased by adding

The p-Block Elements - Part2

Solution:

The solubility of $I_2$ in water increases by the addition of KI due to formation of polyhalide ion
i.e. $l^-_3 KI + I_2 \rightarrow KI_3 $
or $I^- + I_2 \rightarrow I^-_3$
